Develop and install a series of 13 roadside signs that will provide interpretation of Lewis and Clark sites in Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Atchison and Doniphan counties.
Design and construct four open-air pavilions that help guide travelers along the Lewis and Clark Trail. These structures will contain static panels and state-of-the-art, interactive touch screens that allow visitors to access information about Lewis and Clark and a wealth of other historical and recreational information. The pavilions will be built on the riverfront in Kansas City, Leavenworth, Atchison and White Cloud.
Production of a map and brochure about Kansas sites.
Native Cultures Subcommittee
To promote inter-governmental cooperation, understanding and reconciliation between the State of Kansas and the tribes located within the state.
To promote Native American cultural tourism in Kansas and internationally.
To provide assistance to the Commission in promoting positive images of Native Americans in all activities and products of the bicentennial.
Education Subcommittee
To develop programs aimed at educating youth in Kansas.
To host a Teacher Training Academy in Kansas and offer three in-service training programs across the state.
To sponsor a History and Environmental Fair.
Development of two sets of traveling Discovery Boxes on Lewis and Clark.
The Marketing Subcommittee
is working on various projects to make the public, both regionally and nationally,
more aware of the Lewis and Clark Trail in Kansas.
The Fundraising Subcommittee
is identifying sources of public and private funding and exploring ways
that the Commission might use any available funds.
